Realization...

Thu Jul 2, 2009, 1:44 AM
This is something that’s been bothering me. My drawing of bodies usually stays the same, but the eyes always changes in every drawings. It's probably came from the fact that I don't like to copy another drawing like a copy machine. Copying another drawing is not something I enjoy doing and it's something I rarely do, even if I enjoy watching an anime a lot. When I draw I like to create something that I can call my own.

Now that I think about it, my realistic drawing only became better when I have some reference and was trying to replicate the photograph onto paper. It’s the same with my anime drawings as well. Drawing fan art really helps me improve my drawings, because the references I have would act as a support to my lack of drawing skills. None of my fan art is on DeviantArt and it’s all at my ratemydrawings.com.

"Copying another drawings helps you improve your drawings skill." This is what I realize.

Then the fact that I don't like copying very much is probably why my drawings aren't very consistence. It's sad, when I draw one of my original character that I already design before, I have to look back at my drawing of it and still the eyes aren't drawn the same. How in the world am I suppose to draw a manga when I can't replicate my own designs consistently? I guess I still need to practice drawing more.

I want to reach my dreams, but I let myself get tied down by fear. That’s where my artist block began. Currently I’m getting out of it, but it’s still very visible. In my many years of life, I’ve been only dreaming, now it’s time to take a step towards that dream.

I'm still working on it... It's going to be a while before I'm done, but it'll be short.

I'd like to comment on your "BREATHE" journal entry... What I learned is that the reason one can't draw on paper what one sees in the mind is because the hand(s) are not trained well enough to do so. This is of course only a part of the problem. The reason I believe this is because I tried drawing with my LEFT hand (being a righty), and I struggled... I could not control my line quality whatsoever. I knew exactly how I wanted it to look, but my left hand couldn't produce it for me-- because it was never trained to. I've been drawing for about 24 years now-- that's plenty of time for my right hand to get a good hang of it!! But my left hand... yeah right-- it needs serious training. So yeah- all I can say is practice practice practice... nobody can teach you how to draw but yourself; others can only show you how THEY draw. Best wishes!!
